We kinky folk have a long and rich history, spanning centuries. We have used many ways to meet kindred spirits: bawdy houses, newspaper ads in the mid-1800’s, patrons, connecting through goods and services, drop boxes, private and then public clubs and groups, and most recently the net. We have been mischaracterized and vilified, in turn by the church, by psychiatry, by the legal system, and in the public press. Through it all, we remain. This evening we will talk about it all, from Consensual M/s in the mid 1800’s, to Leather, to Porn & Cheesecake, to the founding of public kink in America.

About Master Bert & slave nadine:
Master Bert
Master Bert considers himself an SM lifer, having built his first wooden stocks in 1954 (courtesy of the Cub Scouts), and he started exploring out of the SM closet in 1978. Now retired, he had roles as an electronic engineer, a software designer and entrepreneur, a college professor, and a community organizer. Bert has a passion for conscious Master/slave dynamics and the notion of living an examined M/s life.

slave nadine met Master Bert at a spiritual-sexuality seminar in 1983, and was formally collared by him in 1984. slave nadine has a lifelong interest in bodywork, including trauma release practices. slave nadine supports the opportunity for BDSM people to meet in safe spaces to discover and develop their gifts. Together they are co-founders (with Ilene Dodd, AKA Mistress Catrina) of the Arizona Power Exchange, and in 2001, incorporators. They have been presenters at numerous conferences and hold several community titles including International Master/slave 2003. Both are founding members of the BDSM Research Team at Northern Illinois University and co-authors of several academic papers on BDSM and M/s relationships.
